What
Everybody Needs To
Know
About High Def TV
•
•You’re
surfing the web for info about Plasma TVs when you notice that all
the Plasmas with HDTV are more expensive than regular
Plasmas.
•
What’s
going on? What is HDTV? Is it worth all the extra money? Do I need
to pay extra for HDTV?
The
Top 7 Reasons To Get
A HDTV
Plasma TV?
• HDTV
(High Definition TV) displays
an image on the screen at a higher resolution, resulting in a
sharper picture. It puts more pixels (dots that make up the image)
on the screen. For high def you need more than just a
HDTV
television, you
need a source for your HDTV signal; like a digital cable box or a
DVD player sending a Blu-Ray or HDTV
signal.
• But
Do You Need HDTV? . . .
Maybe. Right now HDTV programing is not universal, in some areas
you have little or no access to shows broadcast in HDTV, and few
people have High Def DVD players. In other areas local stations and
cable channels are making HDTV programming available, there are
even all HDTV cable channels.

This Decision Soon Will Be Made For You Most
Plasma TVs for sale now have a HDTV tuner or can display a high def
signal because they're "HDTV ready" (they can display a HDTV signal
but don't have a HDTV tuner). As of February 17, 2009 all U.S. TV
broadcasts will be in DTV, a low version of High Def. In a few
years all TV sets should come with a HDTV tuner and high def
resolution.
• HDTV
Plasma TVs will
show high def DVDs, Blu-Ray DVDs and high def video games.
• Many
Plasmas are advertised as "HDTV compatible" or
"HDTV ready," meaning that they will accept and display an incoming
high def signal. But be careful; this doesn’t mean the TV actually
has a HDTV tuner built in. You have to read the specifications of
the TV to know.
• If
there is little HDTV programming in your area, you
may not need to pay the extra money for a high
def TV set. But
think about it; high def is the future. In a few years all
broadcasts will be in wide screen high def; and you’ll either have
to buy a digital converter or buy a high def TV at that
time.

Geek
Alert: The
resolution of a standard Plasma TV is 853 x 480 lines, but high def
resolution is 1024 X 768 or higher. Look for the resolution on the
TV you’re shopping for. A plasma TV screen is considered "High
Definition" if the second number of the resolution is at least 720
pixels.

HDTV gives
Plasma televisions a sharper picture, but is more expensive and
requires a high def signal from a digital cable box or a HDTV DVD
player. High def broadcasts are not available everywhere, but they
will be in the next few years.
