How
You Can Install A
Plasma
TV Over Your Fireplace
•
Installing
a Plasma TV over your fireplace can get a little complicated . . .
but it’s something you definitely can do! You’ll save
space and add an even more dramatic look to your
home!
•
The
fireplace should already be the center of attraction in your living
room; adding a Plasma TV in the same area will draw
everyone’s attention to both.
•
But
running your plasma TV at temperatures over 100 degrees can
permanently damage your TV set; and it can easily get that hot
above a fireplace. Mounting a Plasma on a fireplace creates other
problems which may require you to call in a professional
installer.

Tips For Mounting
A
Plasma Over A Fireplace
•
Read The Instructions that
came with your Plasma; find the manufacturer’s recommended
operating temperatures and recommended storage temperatures. These
will give you the highest temperatures your TV can withstand while
mounted or operating.
•
Tape A Thermometer to
several places over your fireplace after building a roaring fire to
measure the temperature. If you get readings above 100 degrees,
that area is too hot to install your Flat Screen TV. Be aware that
some bricks radiate more heat than others.
•
Plasma Displays Usually Operate Best between
32 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit (0 - 40 degrees Celsius). Find
the technical specifications for your TV in your owner’s
manual; you’ll then have information about your TV’s
recommended operating and storage conditions.
•
The Easiest Way To Mount A Plasma Over A Fireplace
is to
use the table stand; you just put the Plasma on the mantel! Make
sure the mantel’s deep enough to hold the table stand before
attempting to lift your TV up there.
•
If The Wall Above Your Fireplace is
made of brick or stone, you can use small rawbolts or anchor bolts
to attach the Plasma TV mount. Make sure you use a spirit level so
the installation isn’t crooked.
•
If The Wall Over The Mantel is
made of wall board, you should probably call a professional
installer to do the job. You have to be careful about routing wires
through the wall and locating studs to support the weight of the TV
and mount.
•
You Can Also Mount A LCD Or DLP TV above
a fireplace. Make sure that the temperature above your fireplace
does not exceed your TV’s recommended operating
temperature.
•
If The Area Above Your Fireplace Is Recessed,
measure the temperature inside the recess while a fire is blazing.
It’s very easy for the temperature of the hollow area to rise
above the recommended operating temperature of your TV. If it does,
do not install the TV above that fireplace.
•
Mounting Your Plasma Over A Fireplace could
put your TV too high for comfortable viewing. Generally, you
don’t want the bottom of the screen above the viewer’s
eye level. Use a tilt wall mount (and if possible, reclining seats)
to make viewing more comfortable for your family.
•
Wall Or Fireplace Mounted Plasma TV looks
best when all connecting cables are hidden. This is especially true
of a fireplace mounted Big Screen TV. Hire a professional installer
to run the wires through your wall, making sure that cables are
placed so that fireplace heat will not melt them.
